I reviewed HTML forms today via codecademy’s free HTML course, but what I really did was remind myself over and over of the need to be patient until I finally realised how helpful this review really was.
I’ve been reviewing my notes alongside the course, adding in any new insights I came across but it was only in the forms section that I realised how much I had either forgotten or never fully grasped. I’m pretty sure I was always a teensy bit unsure about the semantics where certain elements of forms were concerned (such as whether I should wrap <label> elements around their related <input> elements and whether I should use the <button> or <input> elements for form submissions) and this go-round really helped me clarify these things in my mind. With the HTML basics already under my belt, it’s a lot easier to see where I didn’t quite understand WHY certain things need to be done a certain way and others really just depend on the situation/aim of the product.
I also have LOTS more notes where forms are concerned.
I’m going to use what I learned/relearned today to start building an HTML form tomorrow for a local company delivering appetizers. They currently take orders over the phone and I think it’d be a fun little challenge to use what I’m learning/relearning to build them a little (piece of an) app they could use to make the process easier.
Onwards.
