What a difference a month makes! I completed Free Code Camp’s Responsive Web Design Course last night with the submission of my Personal Portfolio Page and I’m thrilled.
I know it’s a small step and I have a LONG way to go, but it’s a step. And it wasn’t easy to make. That said, I could’ve wrapped this course up a bit earlier than I did, if only I could stop tweaking one more thing.
I’ve been listening to the Code Newbie podcast lately and there was a guest who said something to the effect of: programming is the rare field where you spend most of your time trying to solve a problem/fix something and when you’ve done that, you’re done. On to the next thing.
This is true and I’d likely be more productive if I had a “good enough is good enough” approach, but you see the way my perfectionism is set up…
There’s also the fact that I’m self-taught and, though I know programming is the rare field where a formal education isn’t required to excel, I’m also building my portfolio as I go and I don’t want to put work out there that would leave a negative impression.
That said, there’s something to be said for progression. I’m not going to spend time I should be putting towards learning new things on tweaking beginner projects. I’ll leave them up for now to remind myself of how far I’ve come and take them down when my body of work is big enough to do so.
All except my portfolio page. I’m going to set up a repository for that one and build it out as I learn more.
Onwards and upwards.
